The VDLUFA’s Section VIII, Environmental and Trace Analysis, includes colleagues from research, testing, consulting, and industry. Since its founding in 1974, the objective of the section has been to address complex analytical issues across disciplines and to pool the necessary methodological work. Close contacts are maintained, particularly with Section II and VI, whose chairmen are represented on the board of Section VIII. In addition to developing or reviewing analytical methods, position papers are drafted, statements are made on methods or method developments at the national and international levels, and draft legislation is commented on. The section regularly conducts collaborative studies for method validation, analytical quality assurance, and to maintain professional expertise. This ensures the comparability of analytical results through the application of uniform testing methods and evaluation criteria and contributes to solving current environmental problems, particularly in agriculture.
In order to meet the diverse tasks as quickly as possible, the practical work takes place in two working groups (AK):
Within these two working groups or on behalf of the entire working group, project groups are formed to address current topics. These groups address an analytical problem, conduct collaborative studies, and/or develop a method to the point where it can, if possible, be adopted by the working group as an association method. The methods are published in Volume VII of the VDLUFA Methods Manual. Members of the working group participate in various state, federal, and EU committees. Effective representation of German interests is achieved, in particular, through active participation in national and international standardization bodies.
